In a significant step to boost agricultural production, the government distributed Aman seeds and chemical fertilizers on Wednesday among 4,100 small and marginal farmers of Sadar Upazila under the Agricultural Incentive Programme for the fiscal year 2025-26, aimed at supporting Rabi crops.
The distribution ceremony was held at the Sadar Upazila Agriculture Office premises at noon, attended by officials, farmers, and local dignitaries. Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sanchita Biswas was the chief guest and formally handed over the agricultural inputs to the beneficiaries. The function was presided over by Sadar Upazila Agriculture Officer Md. Rokonuzzaman, while Sadar Upazila Fisheries Officer Abu Raihan and MM Mahabubur Rashid Lablu, General Secretary of Narail Press Club, attended as special guests.
Speaking at the event, Md. Rokonuzzaman said that the district Agriculture Department has taken this initiative to encourage the cultivation of Aman paddy and increase agricultural output. “Under this programme, 900 farmers received Ufshi variety paddy seeds, and 3,200 farmers received 2 kg of hybrid rice seeds each. Additionally, 20 kg of chemical fertilizers were provided to each farmer who received Ufshi seeds,” he added.
The program aims to improve food production and income for small and marginal farmers, while also preparing the ground for Boro paddy cultivation during the current Rabi season. These incentives are part of the government’s ongoing efforts to ensure food security and strengthen the livelihoods of rural communities.
UNO Sanchita Biswas urged farmers to fully utilize these facilities provided by the government. “By adopting modern farming techniques and using high-quality seeds and fertilizers, farmers can contribute significantly to making the country self-sufficient in food. This initiative will also increase income and improve the living standards of rural communities,” she said.
The event highlighted the government’s continued commitment to supporting smallholders by providing critical inputs for higher crop yield. Local farmers expressed their gratitude, saying that access to high-quality seeds and fertilizers would help them achieve better harvests and improve their economic condition.
The distribution program reflects a strategic approach to rural development, aiming to increase agricultural productivity and promote sustainable farming practices across the region.
