Government-distributed rice under the VGD (Vulnerable Group Development) card programme was handed out to needy women in Rajapalong Union of Ukhiya Upazila in Cox’s Bazar on Wednesday morning.
The distribution took place in the courtyard of the Rajapalong Union Parishad, where Ward No. 9 UP member Engineer Helal Uddin distributed six months’ worth of rice—180 kg per family—to 650 families. Union Parishad Secretary, Tag Officer, and several others were present during the distribution.
According to Ukhiya Upazila Women Affairs Officer, Mosammat Habiba Jahan, a total of 22,924 families across the five unions of the upazila are receiving rice under the programme.
She added that Tag Officers are assigned to each union to ensure proper distribution in their presence.
