Bangladesh is committed to hold free, fair and transparent national election as Awami League government believes in ‘ballots not in bullets’. After holding a meeting with the United States (US) Assistant Secretary of State Donald Lu, Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen came up with this statement while briefing the journalists on Sunday.

Donald Lu came to Dhaka Sunday on a two-day. Discussion on all major issues, including labour and human rights took place during the meeting between Abdul Momen and Donald Lu at the foreign ministry in the capital. They also talked about Bangladesh’s upcoming national elections.

Bangladesh government has ensured voters photo ID, transparent ballot box, and set up a powerful independent election commission to make the election free and fair. Bangladesh also made its stand clear repeatedly that its election commission is very much independent and the incumbent government will perform its routine duty during the next national polls

The next national election will be held as per the country’s Constitution. BNP leaders now are hatching conspiracy to thwart the next parliamentary polls as they know they cannot win the polls. In the name of the caretaker government, they are now waging movement for changing the Constitution and they want to halt the country’s development and progress.

There is no provision of caretaker government in the Constitution. We believe foreign countries will not give prescriptions to Bangladesh on democracy and human rights as these are deeply rooted in the country’s DNA. All foreign countries should lay emphasis on greater efforts to strengthen their relations with Bangladesh. They can invest more in Bangladesh in different sectors, including energy, considering Bangladesh as a “rising sun”.

We believe the next general election will be a free, fair, transparent and inclusive one under the independent election commission. So, the dream of creating anarchy in the country will never come true  as people cast votes to see development.
