All government allowance beneficiaries will be brought under mobile banking by June. The banks-financial institutes are working towards the digitalisation of allowance disbursement as opening of mobile banking accounts is underway despite the ongoing Coronavirus epidemic.
"As per the government's directives, we have been working to bring all beneficiaries under mobile banking system so that they can get all allowances without facing any hassle," said chief spokesperson of Bangladesh Bank (BB) Serajul Islam.
He said if allowances are disbursed through mobile banking services, beneficiaries will get it easily. This system will also help the government to reduce scope of anomalies in the distribution system, he added.
If mobile baking is used to disburse government allowances, it will be more transparent. Moreover, beneficiaries will get it without facing any problem, said an official of a financial institute.
Mobile banking is now a reliable system in transferring of funds. If this system is used to transfer government allowances, beneficiaries will get it without facing any jeopardy, said an official of Nagad.
“All the beneficiaries will get the allowance through mobile banking by June this year,” Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed said.
“The digital revolution is going on in the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Internet facilities have reached to the most of the people in the country,” said the minister in a progremme recently.
In order to ensure that the ministry distributed laptops and printers at field level social service offices in all districts and upazilas across the country under the Cash Transfer Modernization (CTM) project implemented by the Department of Social Services on Sunday (May 23).
The Cash Transfer Modernization (CTM) project is being implemented with the financial assistance of the World Bank with a view to digitise the allowance distribution program of the Ministry of Social Welfare.
The minister also said that mobile banking through ‘Government to Person’ (GTP) system would be implemented cent percent within the current financial year at any cost to distribute allowances to the beneficiaries through following the directive of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The Minister directed the authorities concerned to be vigilant so that no fake or dual beneficiary gets the allowance.
