Government may introduce ration for disabled, deprived people: Mannan

BERDO celebrates 25th founding anniversary

Planning Minister MA Mannan on Saturday said the government would take initiative to introduce rationing system for the people deprived of opportunity, specially for the lower income segment of physically or mentally challenged people of the country. 

"There have some social injustice, established in the society for long time back, which cause to hurt the weaker or differently able people, its an old and deep rooted problem which is not possible to root out overnight, but now a days gradually we have been learning to pay respect to them or create opportunity to them because the government of Sheikh Hasina is friendly to humanity", Minister added.

Mannan was addressing the celebration of 25th anniversary of the 'Blind Education and Rehabilitation development Organisation' (BERDO) and 28th International Handicapped Day at the BERDO head office complex, Rupnagar, Mirpur in the capital. 

MInister called upon all concerned to work togather for the development of disabled people, saying that meeting the set targets of development of the country would not be possible leaving the huge number of disabled people of the country behind. 

BERDO Executive Director, Saydul Haque presided over the disciussion meeting while, Director General of the NGO Affairs Bureau, KM Abdus Salam attended as special guest. 

While addressing, DG, NGO Bureau said the role of the 10 percent disabled people of the country is not possible to ignore in the process of building a peaceful and developed country by the year 2041.

Founder and Executive Director of BERDO, Md. Saidul Haque said BERDO works relentlessly for the development and rehabilitation of the visually impaired and other disabled persons for quite a long period of time. 

He sought cooperation from the government to set a brail press in the BERDO office premises so that the blind learners get a support from the organisation. 

BERDO also brought out a rally, participating with BERDO members, students, blind people, many other disabled people and under the leadership of it's Executive Director, Saidul Haque. The rally paraded different areas of Rupnagar.  

Deputy General Manager of BERDO, Feroza begum presented the keynote paper in the workshop while Deputy Director, Md. Shahidullah, Engr. Nurul Akter, Engr. Qamrul Ahsan, AHM Noman Khan and President of BERDO, Md. Shah Alam also spoke among others.
