As the country has already crossed over the one month mark of the coronavirus outbreak, the numbers of infected slowly increases to the one thousand mark. This outbreak has resulted in the country to go into an undeclared state of lockdown where most of the residents in the cities are staying indoors to prevent contracting the virus.

Some have opted to purchase a month’s worth of groceries amidst this lockdown so that they don’t have to leave their home unless it is absolute emergency. However, the UN has warned that coronavirus protective measures could jeopardise food security around the world.

To this the experts in Bangladesh have replied that Bangladesh is unlikely to face such a problem if the government can ensure people’s access to food as it has enough food stock.

If the farmers get locked down then there is a high chance

that there won’t be a possibility of producing food even if

the country gets  out of the  coronavirus  situation resulting

in an impending food crisis

This is true that the numbers do point to the fact that there is a huge amount of food stocked in the country which can last well over a year. But, if the coronavirus outbreak is not properly contained the number of infected will increase proportionately with the population. As a result, the higher density areas of the country might be more infected than others.

Also, as most of the areas in the country is rural villages where solely agriculture takes place, if the farmers get locked down then there is a high chance that there won’t be a possibility of producing food even if the country gets out of the coronavirus situation resulting in an impending food crisis.

As a result, it wouldn’t prove prudent to pin all hopes on the stockpile of food as there is high chance that it won’t last all throughout the outbreak unless the number of infected and those remedied can be brought to a balance.

Without the availability of a concrete solution to the virus’ infection there is still doubts whether this number can actually be brought down effectively. Still, what can be done at this time is to hunker down and spend the days one at a time as the government has ensured food stocks which can last well over a year.
