Governing HK as per law key to safeguarding national security

National security, a stable social order, and rule of law are the prerequisites for the development of Hong Kong. The riots and chaos in Hong Kong over the past year fully demonstrated that prosperity and stability will be impossible unless national security is safeguarded and the rule of law in Hong Kong is improved. Governing Hong Kong in accordance with the law is the key to safeguarding national security in the city.

The rule of law must be enforced, or any mention of it will be dismissed as empty talk. A strong and effective law enforcement system is critical to making the national security law in Hong Kong to bring about substantial results.

After the law was adopted, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government and other departments all expressed full support for it and vowed to fulfill their duty to safeguard national security.

After the law took effect, Hong Kong police performed their duties in the face of demonstrators who assembled unlawfully in Causeway Bay and Wan Chai. About 370 people were arrested, with ten of them allegedly violating the national security law.

A rioter who stabbed and injured a police officer attempted to flee through the night, but was eventually arrested by police at the airport. Many Hong Kong residents clapped and cheered after hearing the news and expressed their full support for the police.

On Thursday, the law enforcement system for safeguarding national security in Hong Kong was further advanced. The State Council appointed a secretary-general of the Committee for Safeguarding National Security of Hong Kong as well as a director of the Immigration Department of the city.

It is foreseeable that, with the national security law being gradually implemented and the law enforcement system being enhanced, the constitutional order and the rule of law in Hong Kong will definitely be firmly safeguarded, and external interference will be prevented and curbed so that a more safe, stable, harmonious and convenient social environment can be created for Hong Kong.  Source: China Plus
