The Gopalganj District Legal Aid Office continues to provide free legal services to the poor, helpless, and financially disadvantaged people of the area.
On Tuesday at 12 noon, a promotional session on mediation was held at the Gopalganj Department of Women’s Affairs. The event was organised by the Gopalganj District Legal Aid Office as part of its initiative to raise awareness among grassroots communities.
The session, aimed at trainees of the Women’s Affairs Department, was presided over by District Legal Aid Officer (Senior Assistant Judge) Mohammad Shafiqul Islam. He highlighted three key free services offered by the office: legal advice, legal representation, and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) through mediation.
Mediation, in particular, has become a notable method for resolving disputes quickly and peacefully, avoiding lengthy court processes. It allows both parties to express their views and reach a mutual solution in a calm environment. The Legal Aid Officer urged participants to promote the benefits of mediation in their communities.
Under the guidance of Legal Aid Committee Chairman and Senior District & Sessions Judge Mohammad Shamsul Haque, nearly Tk 10.5 million has been recovered and handed over to beneficiaries through mediation between January and September this year.
Around 50 trainees attended the session, along with officials including Women’s Affairs Deputy Director Lakhsana Laki, human rights activist K.M. Saifur Rahman, Kazi Fardeen Rahman, and other legal aid staff.
