Published : 12 Dec 2023 08:53 PM

Under the project to strengthen nutrition and food security through agricultural development, a model garden on nutrition security has been developed in Godashimla village of Jamalpur Sadar.  These gardens have been developed on the abandoned land of the courtyards of 78 farmers of this village.  Each garden is planted with various types of greens, vegetable gardens as well as spices and fruit trees.  Farmers with nutritional gardens said that they can meet their own needs with the vegetables produced through this garden and earn extra income by selling them in the market.  At one time they had no idea about the production of vegetables and spices, but through this project they got hands-on training in the production of all kinds of crops.  Under this scheme, a farmer has received vegetable seeds, cultivation materials, spices, medicinal and fruit tree seedlings, fertilizers and training for each garden.

Regional coordinator of Mymensingh and Sylhet region, agronomist Abdullah Al Mamun, visited the model garden on nutrition security on Tuesday.  Jamalpur Sadar Upazila Agriculture Extension Officer Sarwar Parvez and Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officers were present at this time. Regional coordinator agriculturist Abdullah Al Mamun said that this project has been implemented in 50 upazilas of 49 districts of the country in the current financial year.  This project will be implemented in 105 more upazilas of the country in stages.  Through this project the farmers will be financially self-sufficient besides meeting their own family needs. Local farmers said that the farmers who have been able to plant gardens under this project with the help of the government have benefited a lot.

The local farmers demanded that more and more farmers should be given gardens under this project in the future.
