Mushfiqur Rahman Ifat, whom the country’s social media users nicknamed ‘Goat Ifat’ for buying a Eid sacrificial goat at a cost of Taka 12 lakh (Taka 1.2 million), is son of Dr Md Matiur Rahman, president of the NBR’s Customs, Excise and VAT Appellate Tribunal.
Ifat’s mother Shammi Akhtar Shiuli aka Shibu is Matiur Rahman’s second wife. Matiur Rahman has three children with his second wife Shibu.
Matiur Rahman’s first wife is Laila Kaniz. From this marriage, they have a daughter and a son.
Nizam Uddin Hazari, the Member of Parliament for Feni-2 constituency, confirmed about the second wife of Matiur Rahman.
He said, “Shibu is my cousin— that’s correct. I don’t know the name of the son. Shibu’s husband’s name is Matiur Rahman, and he is a member of the NBR. They still have a family together.”
Additionally, multiple individuals from Feni have reported that Matiur Rahman’s in-laws live in Sonapur village in Sonagazi, Feni. This NBR official has built a luxurious duplex house there.
The story began a week before Eid, when Ifat went viral for reportedly purchasing a goat at Tk 12 lakh, originally demanded Tk 15 lakh. But he did not end up buying the animal.
Sadeeq Agro owner Mohammad Imran Hossain told reporters that Ifat booked the goat after paying an advance of Tk 1 lakh, but never completed the purchase.
This extravagant purchase quickly raised eyebrows, particularly due to Ifat’s father Matiur Rahman. Further complicating the story, NBR officer Matiur Rahman publicly denied that Ifat was not his son. He does not know him
Matiur Rahman said, “I have no relationship with Mushfiqur Rahman Ifat. I have one son and one daughter. My daughter’s name is Farzana Rahman Ispita, and my son’s name is Ahmed Towfiqur Rahman Arnab.”
Regarding the second marriage, he claims, “This is not true. Ifat is not my son, and I have no relationship with them. This is blackmailing.”
Earlier, Ifat claimed he did not actually purchase the goat; instead, he played along at Imran Bhai’s request. “I did as he said,” Ifat explained. “Then took the picture and said yes, I bought Khasi. Actually, I did not buy it or bring it to my house.”
