The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Wednesday passed an order barring GM Quader to perform duties as the chairman of the Jatiya Party (JaPa).

The court also ordered the concerned lower court to dispose off the case filed against him by January 9.

An Appellate Division bench led by Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique passed the order Wednesday morning.

On October 4, JaPa's suspended leader and former lawmaker Ziaul Haque Mridha filed a writ asking Jatiya Party (JaPa) Chairman GM Quader to refrain from party activities.

On October 31, the lower court passed an order of temporary injunction against Quader.

As the appeal filed by Quader seeking the withdrawal of this order was dismissed, he filed a revision petition with the High Court.

After hearing the revision application, the single High Court bench of Justice Sheikh Abdul Awal postponed the ban order on GM Quader from taking responsibility and taking decisions as chairman of Jatiya Party till January 3, 2023.

An appeal was made to the Appellate Division seeking stay of this order.
