Global Handwashing Day observed in Raozan

Global Handwashing Day was observed in Raozan with due importance. This year’s theme was “Be a Handwashing Champion”. Two separate programmes were organised on Wednesday, 15 October at the Upazila conference room by the Upazila Public Health Office and the Raozan Municipality.

The events were chaired by Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Administrator of Raozan Municipality, Aung Shing Marma. Upazila Public Health Officer Rahmat Ullah conducted the programme, while Raozan Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Zisan Bin Majed attended as the chief guest. Among the special guests were Upazila Agriculture Officer Agriculturist Masum Kabir, Municipal Secretary Anil Chandra Tripura, Social Services Officer Monirul Islam, Municipal Engineer Shahin Islam and Municipal Officer Arfanul Islam Abir.

In his speech, Chief Guest Zisan Bin Majed stressed the need to develop the habit of regular handwashing. He said that a germ-free society must be built through awareness and practice. According to him, washing hands with soap can protect people from nearly 80 types of germs.

Chair Aung Shing Marma added that hands must be washed with soap or ash for at least 20 seconds to effectively eliminate germs. Only then should one use hands to eat.

Prior to the discussion session, a colourful rally was brought out to promote the importance of hand hygiene among the public.
