Sadia Islam Shimu, a student of class ten, had a love affair with Masud Rana, son of her neighbor Bakul Mandal for 5 years.
At one point, about three months ago, they got married without the knowledge of their family, but Shimu’s family could not accept their escape and marriage. So Shimu's father Saiful Islam kept Shimu locked in chains for about a month to keep her in his custody.
Mozaharul Islam, the officer-in-charge of the police station, rescued Shimu from his house in Naopara village of Natore's Gurudaspur upazila on Saturday morning.
OC Mozaharul Islam and locals said that Shimu and Rana ran away and got married and made Shimu's father Saiful Islam very angry.
Police arrested Rana and his father after Saiful Islam filed a kidnapping case against him. The court later handed over Shimu to his father on the condition that no pressure or torture would be inflicted on her. But Shimu's father did not comply with the court's conditions. So, the OC arrested him on Saturday night.
In a case filed by the girl on Sunday morning, her father was sent to Natore jail and the girl has also been sent to court. The court will decide where the girl will stay.
