A teenage girl died at the coronavirus isolation ward at Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital in Sylhet at about 2:00 pm on Tuesday. The 16-year old girl was admitted to the hospital at about11:00 am on the day.
Civil Surgeon of Sylhet Dr Premendro Mondol confirmed her death. He said that the girl’s throat swab was collected before her death. It will be sent to Dhaka for confirmation of coronavirus infection, he added.
Himanshu Lal Roy, deputy director of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, said that the girl died of natural causes.
Earlier, a woman returning from the UK died at the isolation ward of Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital on March 22. Three days later, the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) informed that the woman’s test results came back negative for coronavirus infection.
Meanwhile, three other patients who were admitted to the hospital with fever and cold were tested negative for coronavirus. Sushanto Kumar Mohapatro, residential medical officer of Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital, said that there were five patients with the same symptoms at the hospital till Monday. Samples from the three patients were collected and sent to Dhaka. As the test reports were negative, they were sent home on Tuesday.
