Giants share points in hockey league

Abahani Limited and Mohammedan Sporting Club shared points in the Green Delta Insurance Premier Division Hockey League after playing one all draw at the Moulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium here on Saturday. 

Mohammedan just broke the winning streak of their arch rivals of Abahani Limited when the Dhanmondi outfit drew the match after their successive wins in eight matches in a row.   

Despite the draw, Abahani maintained on top of the points table in the league with unbeaten record of nine matches and secured 25 points while Mohammedan remained at 3rd position obtaining 20 points from eight matches.

Earlier, Abahani Ltd trashed Dilkusha Sporting Club by 10-1, Usha Krira Chakra by 2-1, Azad Sporting Clucb by 10-1 goals, Sadharan Bima KS by 3-0, demolished Victoria Sporting Club by 16-0 goals, Ajax Sporting Club by 7-1 goals, Police Sporting Club by 4-2 and Bangladesh Sporting Club by 6-2. 

In the crucial encounter of the giants, Rakibul Hasan Rocky put the Sky-Blue ahead by a field goal in the very 3rd minute of the match (1-0). 

The traditional Black and Whites Mohammedan had to wait for 32 minute to score the equalizer when defender Amirul Islam converted a penalty corner to level the margin (1-1). Two match-umpires from Sri Lanka and Malaysia, took more than one and half an hour time to complete the 60- minute dramatic and tensed match between two arch-rivals.

It is the first time Abahani faced a huge challenge after their commanding wins in previous eight matches when Mohammedan just threatened to break their unbeaten run.    

Earlier, riding on a hattrick by Shohanur Rahman Sobuj, defending champions Dhaka Mariner Youngs Club, outplayed Bangladesh Sporting Club by 9-1 in the day's first match at the same venue on Saturday.  

Defender Shohanur Rahman Shohan scored four goals, Khorshedur Rahman struck two, Sadaf Salehin, Rahid Hossain and Indian Ajay Yadav scored one each for the Mariner Youngs. 

Indian player Prince Kumar contributed consolation goal for Bangladesh SC.
