Syeda Rizwana Hasan, interim government’s adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, has said that Germany will grant 1 billion Euro support to Bangladesh in the next 10 years, including an initial 15 million euro this year.

Germany will provide the support to develop the renewable energy sector in order to scale up support for Bangladesh to help the country cope with the impacts of climate change.

Syeda Rizwana Hasan made the announcement following a meeting with German Ambassador to Bangladesh Achim Tröster, held at the ministry office of the environment adviser in Dhaka on Tuesday (September 17).

Rizwana emphasised the significance of the collaboration, which aims to promote knowledge exchange and cooperation among the private sector, research institutions and civil society. The initiative will focus on engaging various stakeholders, including ethnic minorities, women and youth in climate-related efforts.

She said that both the countries will promote knowledge exchange and cooperation with non-state actors like the private sector, research institutes, academia, and civil society.

She thanked the ambassador for Germany’s continued support in environmental and climate matters. “We are grateful for Germany’s ongoing support in addressing environmental and climate challenges,” said Syeda Rizwana Hasan.

She also emphasised the need for increased international cooperation to address global climate challenges and the importance of sustainable forest management.

Ambassador Tröster reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to assisting Bangladesh in its fight against climate change and appreciated the government's efforts in protecting the environment.

He noted Germany’s expertise in renewable energy and offered technical assistance to support the country’s green energy transition.

During the meeting, the adviser and the ambassador discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation on environmental protection, river cleaning projects and climate change mitigation.

They also discussed potential collaboration on sustainable development projects, green technology adoption for tackling environmental and climate-related challenges.

The meeting concluded with a mutual agreement to explore further avenues for collaboration, particularly in technology transfer and environmental sustainability projects.
