Arrested currency forger, Saiful Islam, living with his family in the city’s Dhanmondi area since 2014, was known as a very gentle man in his surroundings. However, this so called gentleman was forging currency at night, and busy dealing with fake currency when darkness set in. He was leading the distribution and marketing network for fake currency across the country.
Elite force RAB, early Friday recovered more than one crore fake notes from his flat, said Major Shahriar Ziaur Rahman, second-in-command of Rab-10. RAB also seized fake currency making equipment from his possession. His arrest extremely surprised the local residents. Major Zia said, fake currency rackets become reckless ahead of Eid every year.
“We came to know that a fake currency syndicate had become active in the capital. As per information, we held one Shah Alam from the city’s the Kadamtali area on Thursday. During primary interrogation, he disclosed the name of one Saiful. Later, we raided Saiful’s Dhanmondi residence and arrested him.
Responding to another question, Zia said, “ We seized around Tk 2 lakh in cash from his flat.” Saiful’s family members had gone to his village home. This is why we could not get detailed information about them. We are trying to arrest the other members of the group,” he continued. A case was filed in this connection. The arrested was handed over to local police.
