For the first time in the world, complete genome sequencing of Rui fish from Jamuna River in Bangladesh has been completed by Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnessa Mujib Bingan of Jamalpur and a group of researchers from the University of Technology.
On February 28 (Wednesday) in the afternoon in the conference room of the vice-chancellor of the university, the head of the research team said this information officially. Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Bingan and University of Technology Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Kamrul Alam Khan, Syndicate Member of the University Professor Dr. Md Tofazzal Islam, University Registrar Syed Farooq Hossain, Jashore Jagarani Chakra Foundation Manager Md. Mozammel Hossain and members of the research team, were present. A research team led by Mahmudul Hasan discovered the mystery of Rui's life. Research team member Dr. Mahmudul Hasan said that they have achieved this success after two years of research from 2022. First, Rui was collected from the Jamuna river in the country. The research was then carried out on supercomputers in university laboratories, Japan and India. Through this, they could learn all the information about the cotton's DNA or genetic characteristics.
He said, genome is the complete life plan of an organism. All biological activities of an organism including morphology, birth, growth, reproduction and adaptation to the environment are conducted from the instructions stored in its genome. Whole genome sequencing is the determination of how all the nucleotides (molecules) in an organism's genome are arranged.
The total number of genes in an organism's genome, their characteristics, and their function are known from the complete genome sequence.
Scientists believe that this success will play an important role in the development, conservation and production of rice fish. At the same time, it will be helpful to know the characteristics of roe fish in detail. This success in uncovering the secret of life will be used to increase the production and quality of cotton fish. If we make a concerted effort, Rui Fish will create an example in the fish production of Bangladesh.
