Bangladesh’s situation has become dire because of the coronavirus outbreak. The number of patients has been skyrocketing since the beginning of this month and already has resulted in a staggering 5000 people contracting the virus. As a result of this outbreak the whole healthcare system is facing a crisis right now.

In order to provide for treatment of the infected it is as if the entire healthcare system is about to get turned upside down. Since the Coid-19 patients are the prime concern of the healthcare providers it has caused the focus to drift from those who suffer from other diseases like diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, liver disease, kidney disease and an array of various other diseases.

The government and the Ministry of  Health

must take immediate and aggressive steps

to maintain normal medical care

Already a number of hospitals in various districts have nearly stopped providing general healthcare to patients. The scenario is quite complicated in the capital as well. The prime reason is that both doctors and nurses are contracting the coronavirus. Still, a makeshift way of treatment for the coronavirus infected patients is continuing at the designated hospitals which are suffering from mismanagement and other sorts of limitations. However, this sort of situation cannot let to boil over.

Many doctors, nurses and paramedics have quit their jobs for fear of coronavirus, some have retired, some are unable to work for fear of safety and other reasons. On top of all this, the lack of quality for mask, PPE, gloves, kits and ventilators makes it impossible to deal with life-threatening coronavirus infections. Many public and private hospitals have stopped seeing normal patients for fear of the virus.

Although, some kind of medical activity is going on in the midst of limitations and mismanagement still it is evident that the general medical system of the country has collapsed. The government and the Ministry of Health must take immediate and aggressive steps to maintain normal medical care, otherwise there will be an extreme medical crisis in the near future.
