Geetikobi Shongho urges govt to amend law

Geetikobi Shongho has sent a letter to the Bangladesh Copyright Office of the Ministry of Culture to amend the copyright law. A four-member delegation of the Geetikobi Shongho Coordinating Committee paid a courtesy call on Registrar Zafar Raja Chowdhury on Sunday evening, August 23 and handed over the letter. Lyricists Hasan Matiur Rahman, Asif Iqbal, Kabir Bakul and Zulfiqar Russell were in the delegation.

During the meeting, the organizational position of the lyricists in realizing the moral and financial rights of the lyricists, the role and position of the association in resolving the instability and confusion in the music hall, efforts to create an atmosphere of mutual trust through discussion with all parties were discussed. Copyright Deputy Registrar Muhammad Raihanul Harun also took part in the discussion.

As a representative body of lyricists, the representatives of the Geetikobi Shongho expressed their commitment to respect the fair interests of all composers, vocalists, instrumentalists, producers and music labels, including lyricists, and highlighted the association’s efforts to create an environment for discussion.

Zafar Raja Chowdhury appreciated the endeavour and reviews of the Geetikobi Shongho on copyright law and promised to play an effective role in ensuring the interests of all parties including the lyricists in the music industry.

After the discussion, the representatives of Geetikobi Shongho handed over a letter to the Copyright Registrar Zafar Raja Chowdhury to include ten proposals of Geetikobi Shongho in the proposed copyright law.
