Gazipur City Corporation Mayor Jahangir Alam, also the general secretary of Gazipur Metropolitan unit of ruling Awami League, has sought unconditional apologies to the party high command.

He sought for the apology in response to a letter from the Awami League asking for showing causes of why actions should not be taken against him as he had made a defamatory remark on Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and raised question on the martyrs of the War of Liberation in 1971.

Sources in the Awami League said that party high command and the activists as well got infuriated with the Gazipur mayor for his disparaging remarks. The party also served a show-cause notice to him on October 3. He was asked to answer to the notice by 15 days.

Jahangir answered to the letters before the time limit ends. He has submitted his answer to Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Jahangir told media, “I have submitted my answer before the deadline.”

Awami League sources said decision on Jahangir might be finalised on the meeting of the party’s next executive committee scheduled to be held on December 19.
