Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU) has secured the first position among all public universities in Bangladesh in the Times Higher Education (THE) University Impact Ranking 2025.
The UK-based education magazine Times Higher Education published the new ranking on its official website on Wednesday. In the international list, GAU was placed in the 801–1000 band, making it the highest-ranked public university from Bangladesh this year.
This ranking was made based on the performance of 2,526 higher education institutions from 130 countries around the world. The universities were evaluated for their activities and contributions towards achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations.
Earlier in January this year, GAU also achieved the top position in the Times Higher Education World University Subject Ranking-2025 in the Life Sciences category, becoming the best among both public and private universities in Bangladesh. Additionally, GAU ranked highest among all agricultural universities in the country in the THE Asia Ranking 2025. The university was also listed among the world's top 300 innovative universities in the 2024 URI ranking.
GAU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr GKM Mostafizur Rahman expressed his joy over this latest success. He said, "Gazipur Agricultural University has been ranked the best university in Times Higher Education University Impact Ranking 2025. It is a proud achievement for us to reach the top among all public universities in the country."
He added that this recognition reflects the university’s continuous hard work in education, research, and sustainable development. He also mentioned that GAU’s commitment to supporting the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals has played a key role in earning this honour.
