Gas discharges from fishing gher in Satkhira

A gas explosion occurred while water was being lifted by Shallow Engine at Varashimla area under Kaliganj upazila in Satkhira on Sunday.

Members of fire service managed to stop gas emissions after a long effort. Professor of a local college Niaz Kawser Tuhin said to Abu Bakkar (68), son of late Mojahar Gazi was digging a fishing gher behind MJF Special Disabled School. He was setting a pipe there for lifting water. 

After, piling of 105 feet, suddenly gas started emitting   from the water pipe. In the meantime, gas’s pressure was 50 feet high. After a long effort, members of Fire Service and Civil Defense became able to stop the outflow of the gas by using sand and mud.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mozammel Haque Rasel said we are not sure about stockpile of gas in that area. Gas is discharging from false layer of the land. We’ve already informed Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Limited (BAPEX) about the incident.
