We express profound concern over the deteriorating situation in the Middle East and strongly condemn Israel’s continuous direct military attack against Lebanon and Palestine which constitutes a serious threat to regional stability.
Concerns have been raised about the potential spreading of the conflict, with implications for civilian population and international humanitarian law. However, we all also believe a diplomatic solution is still possible to this end.
Early Tuesday, the Israeli military troops had started "targeted ground raids" in south Lebanon, across Israel's northern border. The Israeli ground offensive came despite growing calls for de-escalation after a week of air strikes that killed hundreds in Lebanon, including Hassan Nasrallah, the powerful leader of Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah.
On Tuesday Israel was under missile attack from Iran. The latest escalation after Israeli raids against Iran-backed forces in Lebanon. Missiles were also launched from Iran towards Israel. The attack was in response to Israel’s killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah last week as well as the death of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in a Tehran bombing widely blamed on Israel. We fear a large-scale ground invasion by Israel into Lebanon would only result in greater suffering. The conflict in the Middle-East is at another critical juncture.
Israel had conducted 11 consecutive strikes on the group's south Beirut stronghold late Thursday, in one of the most violent raids since Israel intensified its bombardment campaign last week. On the other hand, more than 41,700 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip since October last year.
Israel in recent weeks also launched aerial and ground attacks in Lebanon as a year of cross-border firings between Israeli forces and the Lebanese group Hezbollah escalated last month. This is cruel, monstrous and barbaric.
This military action now Israel carrying out is one of the deadliest attacks on Beirut. The mass killing across the north Beirut has already spurred widespread international condemnation and protests before Israeli embassies in several countries in the world. Besides, protests by university students demanding end of ties with Israel over the Gaza, Beirut and Iran war spread across the world including USA, Western Europe and Bangladesh. Several crore of people continued protesting in different countries across the globe over the deadly strike on Beirut and Gaza. It is a ‘despicable crime’.
Bangladesh is a peace-loving nation which does not want war. So, the peace-loving people of the country do not want to see the killing of civilians especially women, innocent children and elderly people.
Targeting important estblishments and civilian facilities is a war crime. This aggression must stop. This crime has exceeded all limits, and we are calling on all countries of the world and the great powers in particular, to put an end to these crimes and to open corridors to bring humanitarian aid into the besieged sector. The international community and relevant agencies must reject such inhuman actions and engage in efforts collectively to end this mindless and barbaric bloodshed in Palestine and Beirut. The women and children are the worst sufferers of the war.
Bangladesh had the experience of the dread of the war. As conflict continues to ravage Gaza and Lebanon, pregnant women in the enclave are facing unprecedented challenges.
The recent Israeli airstrikes have left expectant mothers fearing for the safety of their unborn children and their own lives, according to international news agencies. The world has been witnessing the war ---firstly the Russia-Ukraine war, Israeli-Palestine and now Israeli attack on Lebanon.
The world leaders should take immediate step to ‘stop this tragedy immediately’. We the people of Bangladesh are constantly calling upon the global leaders to stop the war as the women and children are the worst sufferers of the war.
The game of arms and the arms competition must stop. There are no words to fully express our condemnation of Israel’s strike at Lebanon and Palestine. An unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe is unfolding under our eyes.
It can’t be tolerated in this civilised world that Israel will continue killing the people of Palestine and Lebanon. No argument can justify the breach of international humanitarian laws and human rights standard.
