The Election Commission (EC) is going to announce the schedule for the Pabna-4 (Ishwardi-Atgharia) by-elections. If all goes well, the schedule could be announced by the end of August. Immediately after this announcement, the candidates have become eager to get nominations.

The election was scheduled for June 30. However, due to coronavirus pandemic the election date was delayed. The EC has said that the polls will be held at the end of September and the election schedule will be announced at the end of August.

In the news of the announcement of the schedule, more than a dozen candidates of the Awami League have become eager to get nominations in this seat. They are now communicating with the leaders in Dhaka. Their focus is now on the party's central office.

The name of the candidate for this by-election will be announced from there. Meanwhile, Galibur Rahman Sharif, the third son of late Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sharif, a late MP from Pabna-4 constituency, is now one of the members of Ishwardi Upazila Awami League.

He is working to establish himself among the people. Talks with the leaders have continued to strengthen the organisational structure of the party. Like his father, he has devoted himself to the service of the people.

Galibur Rahman Sharif is a highly educated, young, organizational and enterprising leader. Former Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sharif, who was elected a Member of Parliament five times in a row, started his career in politics.

He has always noticed his father's politics. His father's political discourse, his discussions with political leaders, and his team management have been closely monitored by Ghalib.

Because of his father, he has been able to get in touch with President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and many other leaders of the Awami League.

District Awami League president, former land minister and Pabna-4 (Ishwardi-Atgharia) MP Shamsur Rahman Sharif died on April 2.

Since his father died, Galib has been working for the people of his father’s constituency. He is in touch with the local party leaders every day to make the Awami League stronger and stronger in terms of organizational skills, he said.

Food assistance was provided by the family of the late MP Shamsur Rahman Sharif among 25,000 poor and helpless families who lost their jobs due to corona infection. Galibur Rahman Sharif, with the help of leaders and activists, handed over the food aid bags to them in different areas of Ishwardi and Atgharia.

Our Ishwardi correspondent talked with him about the development of Ishwardi and the upcoming Pabna-4 constituency by-election. In response to a question, the well-educated, young leader said with a smile, "My father  Shamsur Rahman Sharif was an MP in this area for about 21 years." He has served as Land Minister for five years. The people of Ishwardi know his contribution for this area. So, there is nothing to exaggerate here.

When asked whether he will seek party nomination for the upcoming by-election, he said, "I have decided to seek nomination from the party as a child of Shamsur Rahman Sharif. In this case, if Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, daughter of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu, takes me into consideration, I will work dedicatedly for the party and the people of my area.
