Full-swing campaign of ‘Sommilito Babosayee Parisad’ goes on

“Sommilito Babosayee Parisad’ candidates are getting huge support from general members ahead of the election of the apex trade body, Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI) because the Parisad mainly remains active in demanding direct voting instead of selection in the upcoming election, according to sources.

Meanwhile the ‘Sommilito Babosayee Parisad’ has arranged their first introductory meeting today (Saturday) at the Officers Club in the capital.

Mir Nizam Uddin Ahmed, as the Panel leader of the Parisad, has invited all the general body members to join the introductory meeting.

He said the meeting will introduce all the 26 members of their panel highlighting their business identities, leadership qualities and also describing how they will be able to contribute in upholding the demands of FBCCI general members through their activities. The general body members believe that direct election will take place this year at the FBCCI in the face of the demands of  Sommilito Babosayee Parisad’, and that’s why this Parisad of Association Group should be elected.

Ahead of the election, scheduled to be held on July 31st, the candidates are getting busy with campaign, holding introductory meeting and view exchange meeting at different hotels and clubs in the capital.

Mir Nizam Uddin Ahmed, the Panel leader of the Parisad, is the five times Director of FBCCI and former Vice-President. He is also the five times elected Chairman of Bangladesh Electrical Association and Director of ‘Abahani Limited’ and President of ‘Abahani Supporters Gosthi’.

Former Senior Vice Presidents of FBCCI, Muntaqim Ashraf, and Nizam Uddin Rajesh are the Joint Convener of ‘Sammilito Babosayee Parisad’.

Meanwhile, another Parisad titled ‘Babosayee Oikkya Parisad’, has been formed led by Mahbubul Alam, the President candidate in the FBCCI election. Mahbubul Alam is the President of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industries (CCCI). A total of 39 candidates have submitted their candidature from the Oikkya Parisad.

Sources said out of 39, the candidatures of only 23 will remain finally, so this has generated uncertainty and confusions among the candidates. Along with submission of nominations, an withdraw letter has also been taken from them so that if needed their candidature can be withdrawn. And the Oikkya Parisad followers are preferring selection process instead of direct election but the general body members are not taking this positively.

Sources also said the Commerce Ministry is also inspiring to hold election directly. Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Md. Hafizur Rahman in a letter recently said that the government is in favor of direct election in the trade bodies including the FBCCI. That’s why the Ministry has already announced date for election of some trade bodies.

He hoped that direct election will be held at FBCCI and they are keeping watch on FBCCI election.
