Classes at the secondary level have been limited since February 22 due to the rising impact of Covid-19. However, as the Covid situation is now under control, all classes will start in full swing from March 15.

Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni came up with the assertion after inaugurating the Sher-e-Bangla Girls' College building at Tikatuli in the capital on Saturday.

“We could not start classes so far due to the coronavirus pandemic. Now the situation is quite normal. The students have also been brought under vaccination programme. In this situation, classes will start from March 15 as per normal regulations,” the minister said.

She further said that a formal notice would be issued in this connection soon. At the same time the notice will highlight instructions for the teacher and students.

The education minister said that the number of examinations would be reduced if the new curriculum is introduced. This will remove the student’s intimidation for examinations. Daily learning will be evaluated every day. Examinations will be limited at the end of the year, but final grading will be done by adjusting the assessment throughout the year.

Earlier in the day, in response to a question on whether the assignment activities would continue if the classes started in full swing, the education minister said, “Those who would not be able to come to the classes for valid reasons would probably be covered under the assignment activities. Assignments will be given where needed.”

When asked if there would be any problem in piloting of the blended education when the class starts in full swing, she said, “We are pursuing a national policy for blended education. The policy is to be handed over to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on March 26.”

Once that is done, its process of progress will be decided. Various preparations are needed for the process. Classrooms need to be arranged for that. Teachers are being trained and paid differently. Work is going on but it cannot be cone overnight, she added.

Riaz Uddin Riaz, Chairman of the Governing Body of Sher-e-Bangla Girls' College, presided over the function.
