Bangladeshi youth interested in teaching in the United States have a great opportunity with the Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) program. The scholarship for the 2025-26 academic year offers a chance to teach the Bengali language at universities across the U.S. Applications are open online, with the deadline set for July 27 at 11:59 pm Bangladesh time.
To be eligible for the FLTA program, applicants must meet several criteria. They should have more than seven years of teaching experience in English or a related subject at the university level. A four-year bachelor’s degree from a recognized university in Bangladesh is required. Additionally, applicants must be proficient in English, evidenced by a minimum score of 80 on the TOEFL or 7 on the IELTS. Candidates must also be Bangladeshi citizens.
The FLTA program, administered by the Institute of International Education (IIE) and funded by the U.S. State Department, offers a unique teaching and cultural exchange experience. Fellows will assist in language classes for up to 20 hours per week and must take at least two courses per semester. This program not only provides a platform for teaching Bengali but also facilitates cross-cultural learning between the fellows and their students.
Scholarship benefits include a 9-month non-degree program where participants will teach Bengali to students at U.S. colleges and universities. This opportunity allows fellows to share their cultural insights and experiences, enhance their professional skills, and improve their English language abilities.
To apply, candidates need to complete the online application form and submit several documents: academic mark sheets (graduate and post-graduate), three letters of recommendation (uploaded directly by recommenders), an academic record information form (available on the application site), and a TOEFL/IELTS score certificate.
Don’t miss this exceptional opportunity to advance your career and engage in a meaningful cultural exchange. Apply now before the deadline!
