A fugitive life-term convict in a rape case was arrested by the Rapid Action Battalion in Gazipur.
Asadul was working in a readymade garment factory with fake identities in Gazipur’s Kashimpur, said RAB-4 assistant director Shihab Karim after the arrest.
He said that Asadul raped a five-year old daughter of his neighbour in Darussalam area of the capital on May 4, 2018. Asadul lured the minor to his room with watching cartoon on cellphone and raped her, according to the case filed by the victim’s father with Darussalam police station.
Asadul told RAB officials in interrogation that he was arrested in the case and stayed in jail for six months, said RAB officer Shihab. Later, Asadul secured bail from the court and went into hiding. The Dhaka Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal later awarded life-term imprisonment on Asadul.
The court then again issued warrant against Asadul since he did not appear before the court.
RAB arrested him based on intelligence information, Shihab said.
