Police have arrested Khokan, a fugitive accused in multiple murder cases, including one involving a locally made firearm, in Maheshkhali, Cox's Bazar.
The operation was conducted on Saturday night in the Shamiraghona area of Kalarmarchhara Union, Maheshkhali Upazila, according to Alok Biswas, Additional Superintendent of Police (Special Branch) and spokesperson for the district police.
The arrested individual, Md. Khokan (40), is the son of the late Mansur Alam, also known as Rasu, from the same area.
Alok Biswas stated that on Saturday night, police received information that Md. Khokan, a fugitive in multiple murder cases, along with several others, had gathered in the Shamiraghona area, armed and with the intention of committing crimes. When a police team arrived at the scene, the suspects noticed their presence and attempted to flee. Police chased them and managed to arrest one person, while the others escaped.
"Later, a search of the arrested individual's person yielded a locally made firearm," he said.
The district police spokesperson added that the arrested individual is a known terrorist. He is accused of being involved in multiple murders and other crimes, with several cases filed against him. He had been evading arrest in these cases for a long time.
A case has been filed against the arrested individual under the relevant laws, according to Additional Superintendent of Police Alok Biswas.
