Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested a fugitive convict who was sentenced to life-term imprisonment in a murder case filed in 1993 with Chhagalnaiya Thana in Feni district.
The convict Abul Khair, 65, was arrested from Chattogram last night, Senior Assistant Director (Media) of RAB-7 Md Nurul Abser saidon Thursday while conducting a press briefing. According to the RAB official, Abul Khair killed his elder brother Abu Taher over land related dispute with the help of his another brother Abdul Qader at Dakhin Ballavpur village under Chhalnaiya upazila on June 27 in 1993.
Following the murder, Taher's sister filed a case accusing Abul Khair and Abdul Qader. Justifying witnesses and evidences, a court in Feni sentenced Abul Khair and Abdul Qader to life-term imprisonment in their absence.
Md Nurul Abser also said, on information, a team of the elite force conducted a raid in Patiya area last night and was able to arrest Abul Khair who was on run for 30 years.
Abul Khair will be handed over to Chhagalnaiya Thana police as soon as possible, the RAB official added.
