Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested a fugitive at Begumganj in Noakhali district, who was sentenced 10 years of imprisonment in an arms case.
The matter was confirmed by Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Mithun Kumar Kundu, Acting Company Commander of RAB-11, CPC-3 Noakhali Camp, in a press release on Monday afternoon.
Earlier, he was arrested around 9 PM on Sunday from the Chaumuhani area of the upazila.
The arrested individual is Md Fakhrul Islam, 36, a resident of Ganipur village in the upazila.
According to press release, Fakhrul, an accused in multiple cases, including drug and arms offenses. A court had sentenced him to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment in an arms case.
Subsequently, he had been absconding in various police station areas across the country to evade arrest.
Based on secret information on Sunday night, an operational team of RAB-11, CPC-3, Noakhali, arrested him from the road in front of M/s Maola Auto and Digital Honda Servicing Center, opposite the CNB Gate at Chaumuhani in the upazila.
Mithun Kundu further added that during interrogation, the accused confessed to being a warrant-holding convicted individual sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment.
The accused has been handed over to Begumganj Police Station for further legal action.
