Fruit cultivation brings new hope in Jibannagar

Jibannagar upazila of Chuadanga district has name and fame for fruit cultivation in the country recently.  Farmers and unemployed educated youths are engaged to cultivate different types of fruit on commercial basis in the upazila.  The fruits are mangoes, guavas, jackfruits, jam, litchis, bananas, papayas, kul, coconuts, lemons, malta, and oranges. 

According to Agriculture Department of Jibannagar, a total of 1447.5 hectares of land has been taken for fruit cultivation in the upazila.  Of the total, mango has been cultivated on 450 hectares of land, guava on 500 hectares, jackfruit on 30 hectares, jam on 5 hectares, litchi  on 35 hectares, banana on 200 hectares, papaya on 20 hectares, kul on 104 hectares, coconut on 30 hectares, lemon on 15 hectares, malta on 28 hectares, orange on 13 hectares, dragon on 17 hectares and aata on o.50 hectares of land. 

It may be mentioned here that Marufda, Balihuda and Raipur villages are known to everybody of the district as fruit villages.  Sharmin Aktar, Agriculture Officer of Jibannagar, told the Bangladesh Post that most of the unemployed  educated youths are coming to cultivate fruits as it is cash crop. Marketing facilities are available in the area.
