Fresh projects for many more jobs

The government is going to take up nine new development projects to create huge job opportunities and ensure sustainable economic development of the country. 

These projects related to the Prime Minister's Office and the Ministry of Commerce have been proposed to be included in the Annual Development Program (ADP) for the next fiscal year 2021-22.

The proposal was sent from the Planning Commission's Industry and Energy Department to the Commission's Activities Division, which is in charge of preparing the ADP.

According to the proposal signed by Maqbool Hossain, Industrial Energy Research Officer, the first call notice has been filled on the basis of information received from the Engineering and Electronics Wing of the Prime Minister's Office and the Ministry of Commerce for the preparation of ADP for FY 2021-22.

The new projects proposed are the establishment of Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP-3A) and Desalination Plant (Diesel-2A) at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Industrial City.

The total cost of its implementation has been estimated at Tk 2,113.11 crore. Once approved at the end of processing, the target is set to be implemented between July this year and June 2025.

Describing the current status of the project, the proposal said that the Development Project Proposal (DPP) of the project has been prepared.

Besides, there are projects to establish Sonadia and Maheshkhali economic zones. The total cost of its implementation has been estimated at Tk 1,456 crore. If approved at the end of processing, the target is between July this year and June 2024. The development project proposal (DPP) of the project has been prepared.

Projects include infrastructure development projects at Sabrang and Naf Tourism Parks. The total cost of its implementation has been estimated at Tk 554.02 crore.

The project is targeted to be implemented between July this year and June 2024 if approved after processing.

Preparation of DPP of the project has been completed.

Besides, there is a project to establish Nawabganj Economic Zone. The total cost of its implementation has been estimated at Tk 1,068.87 crore. If approved, the project is targeted to be implemented between July this year and June 2024.

 A meeting of the project verification committee was held for the project. There is a project to establish Mongla Economic Zone-2.

The total cost of its implementation has been estimated at Tk 239.33 crore. Once approved, the project is targeted to be implemented by June 2022. A meeting of the Project Evaluation Committee (PEC) has already been held on the project proposal.

Besides, the total cost for the implementation of Project for Promoting Investment and Enhancing Industrial Competitiveness, Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) project has been estimated at Tk 35.16 crore.

If approved, the project is targeted to be implemented by June 2022. A PEC meeting  was held on the project proposal.

The total cost for the implementation of the Bogura Economic Zone Establishment Project has been estimated at Tk 524.99 crore. If approved, the project is targeted to be implemented by June 2023. Project Verification Committee meeting has been held.

The total cost of the Netrokona Economic Zone Establishment Project has been estimated at Tk 1,504.61 crore. If approved, the project is targeted to be implemented by June 2022. Project Verification Committee meeting was held.

The total cost for the implementation of the project to set up two modern fire stations at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Industrial City has been estimated at Tk 93.63 crore. If approved, the project is targeted to be implemented by June 2022.
