Fresh pledge to uphold spirit of Liberation War

Victory Day-2020 celebrated across the country amid mass enthusiasm

People rejoiced on the Victory Day across the country on Wednesday. The 50th Victory Day was celebrated in the capital and other parts of the country with fresh pledge to uphold the spirit of the hard-earned independence and democracy and eliminate the anti-liberation forces. 

People from all walks of life came to streets and roads since early morning to welcome the 50th Victory Day. They celebrated the day bearing national flags, placards and festoons while dressed up in red and green representing the blood of martyrs in the 1971 Liberation War as well as the country's green natural beauty. Chattogram:  On the occasion of day, various programmes were carried out by the Chattogram Zila Parishad. The day was observed in Chattogram city and the district by various other organisations, political parties and local administrations,  reports our Staff Correspondent,  Ctg

The programme of the day started with laying of wreaths at the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman under the leadership of Zila Parishad Chairman MA Salam.  Later, a discussion was held. A minute's silence was also observed in memory of the heroic freedom fighters who were martyred in the Liberation War.

Speaking at the discussion, MA Salam, also President of Chattogram North District Awami League, said that now our responsibility is to make Bangabandhu's glorious dream come true by implementing the Vision 2021 and 2041 of Bangabandhu's daughter Sheikh Hasina by contributing to the development of the country with the great spirit of Liberation War.

Zila Parishad’s Chief Executive Officer Shabbir Iqbal presided over the function, while Secretary of the Zila Parishad Md. Rabiul Hasan, Mohammad Monirul Islam, Zafar Ahmed, AMM Dilsad, Advocate Umme Habiba, Mohammad Yunus and Akhtar Uddin Mahmud Parvez addressed the discussion, among others. 

Khulna: People of Khulna celebrated the day, paying rich tributes to the three million martyrs. To mark the day, Khulna district administration arranged various programmes. The day programmes began placing wreaths on the monument of Shaheed martyrs of Gallyamari with 31-gun salute at dawn at the Khulna Police Line Ground, reports our Khulna Correspondent. 

Khulna divisional commissioner Dr Md Anwar Hossain Howlader hoisted the national flag at Khulna Circuit House. Khulna Shishu Academy organised an art and painting competition.

A virtual discussion and a reception to the freedom fighters was held at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) office with DC Md Helal Hossain in the chair. Mayor of Khulna City Corporation Talukder Abdul Khaleque addressed the event as chief guest.

People of all walks of life placed wreaths at the Gallamary monument on the day. State-run Khulna Betar broadcast special programmes while the local newspapers published special supplements on the occasion.

Khulna city and district unit Awami League also celebrated the victory day in befitting manner. A colourful victory rally was brought out in the city by the ruling Awami League. The rally paraded main streets and ended at the party office followed by a discussion.

Khulna University (KU), Khulna University and Engineering Technology (KUET), Khulna Agricultural University, Mongla Port Authority (MPA), West Zone Power Company Ltd, Khulna Press Club and different other organisations also celebrated the day. 

Noakhali: The authorities of Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU) observed the day in a befitting manner, reports our NSTU Correspondent. 

On the occasion, a rally was brought out on the campus led by NSTU VC Prof Dr Md Didar-ul-Alam. The rally ended with paying floral tributes at the Central  Shaheed Minar and Bangabandhu Mural of the university.

A colourful procession was brought out on Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU) campus. 

At the time, NSTU treasurer Prof Dr Mohammed Faruque  Uddin, NSTU Registrar Prof Dr Abul Hossain, members of NSTU teachers association, members of NSTU officers association and  teachers, students, officials were also present.

Meanwhile, a discussion was held at the Hazi Idris auditorium on the campus  where Prof Dr Md Didar-ul-Alam was present as the chief guest. The discussion was presided over by NSTU treasurer Prof Dr Mohammed Faruque Uddin and conducted  by Afsana Moushumi, Director of student counseling and guidance office of the university. 

Faridpur: The 50th Victory Day was celebrated throughout various programmes with due honour. The day started with hoisting national flag and 31 rounds of artillery fire at sunrise, reports our Faridpur Correspondent. 

At 8 am, after a minute of silence and prayers for the souls of the martyrs, a wreath was laid at the Liberation War memorial at Goalchamat in the town on behalf of Engineer Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee of the Ministry of Local Government.

Later, Deputy Commissioner Atul Sarkar, Superintendent of Police Alimuzzaman, various educational, social, professional organizations and people of all levels paid their respects.

At 9.30 am, balloons and pigeons were released and National Anthem was sung in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office.

Lakshmipur: Marking the day, a victory rally was brought out after holding a prayer at the mass grave at Bagbari in the district town in the morning by ‘Amra Kojon Mujib Shena' organisation, reports our Lakshmipur Correspondent.  

At the end of the rally, everyone gathered at the Central Shaheed Minar. A total of 20 Freedom Fighters present at the time were honored. The freedom fighters handed over the national flag to the new generation to preserve it's honor.

At this time, the Freedom Fighters and young generation took an oath to keep the spirit of the liberation war high.

Dinajpur: The district unit of of Bangladesh Railway Labors League and railway station administration jointly celebrated Victory Day, reports our Dinajpur Correspondent. 

In the morning, after marching the main roads of the city from Dinajpur railway station, wreaths were laid at the Shaheed Minar in the Deputy Commissioner's office premises.

Dinajpur district unit of Bangladesh Railway Shramik League and railway station administration jointly laid a wreath at the Shaheed Minar on DC office premises in Dinajpur.

The function was presided over by Bangladesh Railway Workers League District Branch Vice-President Md. Majedul Islam and Bangladesh Railway Dinajpur Station Superintendent ABM Ziaur Rahman conducted it.

Officers of Bangladesh Railway Dinajpur Station and officials of Employees Labor League were present on the occasion.

Chapainawabganj:  On the occasion of the Victory Day, a mural of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was inaugurated on premises of Chapainawabganj Sadar Upazila Parishad, reports our Chapainawabganj Correspondent. 

Deputy Commissioner Manjurul Hafeez inaugurated the mural at 9 am as the chief guest. Later, wreaths were laid before the portrait of the Father of the Nation.

District Awami League Vice President Freedom Fighter Ruhul Amin, ADC AKM Tajkir Uz-Zaman, ADC Debendranath Urano and others were present at the time. After the inauguration, special prayers were offered.

Satkhira: The day was celebrated in the district with a limited scale due to Covid-19 pandemic, reports our Satkhira Correspondent. 

On the occasion, Chairman of Satkhira Zila Parishad Md Nazrul Islam and Chief Executive Officer (Acting) and Additional Deputy Commissioner Md Badiuzjan laid a wreath at the mural of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on the premises of Zila Parishad in the morning. Panel Chairman of Satkhira Zila Parishad Syed Aminur Rahman, Zila Parishad members Al Ferdous, Md. Obaidur Rahman and Md. Monirul Islam were also present at the time.  

Chuadanga: The 50th Victory Day was observed in the district under the auspices of district administration, upazila administrations, socio-cultural organisations, educational institutes, Awami League and different other political parties following a series of programmes to maintain health rules over Covid-19 pandemic, reports our Chuadanga Correspondent. 

The programmes included a 21-gun salute at 12:01 am, hoisting of the national flags atop all government, semi-government offices, private offices, private buildings, business establishments before sunrise, decorating town streets with miniature national flags  and colorful festoons, and illumination of important buildings, establishments, roads at night, friendly badminton competitions, supplying improve diet to hospital and jail inmates, discussions, according reception of freedom fighters and martyred freedom fighters through giving gifts and cultural competitions. Most of the programs were done virtually. 

Bagerhat: On the occasion of the Victory Day, the Chitalmari Upazila Administration arranged a programme at the upazila, reports our Chitalmari Correspondent. 

Presided over by Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Maruful Alam, the event was attended, among others, by Upazila Parishad Chairman Ashok Kumar Baral as the Chief guest, Assistant Commissioner (AC-land) Jannatul Afroz Swarna and Officer-in-Charge Mir Shariful Haque as special guests. Leaders of Upazila Awami League and all its affiliated and fraternal organisations, freedom fighters, leaders of various social, cultural and professional organisations also took part in the programme.

People from all walks of life also attended the colorful event maintaining health safety measures. 

Manikganj: The day began with 31 gun salutes at Shaheed Tapan-Miraz Stadium at 6.30 am. With the rise of the sun, streams of people irrespective of age and sex thronged the town streets leading to the central Shaheed Minar in Manikganj town, reports our Manikganj Correspondent.

Police Super of Manikganj Rifat Rahman Shamim along with other policemen placed a floral wreath at Shaheed Minar.

At 7.01 am, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Manikganj SM Ferdous, Police Super Rifat Rahman Shamim, Mayor of Manikganj Municipality Gazi Kamrul Huda Selim, Manikganj district unit of Bangladesh Muktijuddha Sangsad, Freedom Fighters Association, Sector Commander’s Forum Mutijuddha-71, Awami League, BNP, Jatiya Party, CPB, JSD, Gano Forum, Manikganj Press Club and various other political parties, socio-cultural organisatons and educational institutions placed floral wreaths at the Shaheed Minar showing respects to the heroes of the Liberation War.

Marking the day, over one hundreds family members of martyrs, wended freedom fighters and freedom fighters were honored by the district administration.

Later, District Shilpokola Academy organised another discussion, cultural function and prize distribution to the competition winners. DC SM Ferdous distributed prizes among the winners of rendering song, acting, dancing, and reciting poem and art competition, jointly organized by the district Shishu Academy and Shilpa Kola Academy.

Tangail: The Victory Day was celebrated in the district with due flavour, dignity and mass enthusiasm through various programmes, reports our Tangail Correspondent

The national flag was hoisted at the government, private and Muktijoddha Complex buildings with sunrise by the district administration. At the same time, 31 rounds of artillery fired at the Deputy Commissioner's office premises as well as wreaths were laid at the memorial of the liberation war martyrs at the Shaheed Smriti Municipal Park while prayers were offered for the betterment of the souls of the martyrs.

Besides, the day was celebrated at the upazilas through various programmes. All mosques and temples offered special munajat and prayers along with other religious places of worship. Rich quality food was served in jails, hospitals, children's families and women's rehabilitation centers too.

Barishal: The Barishal University organised various programmes marking the day, reports our BU Correspondent.   

On the occasion, Vice-Chancellor of the university Prof Dr Md Sadequl Arefin along with others laid a wreath at Bangabandhu Memorial in the morning. Later, Barisal University Teachers’ Association, Officers’ Association, Grade 11-18 and Grade 16-20 Welfare Council, Bangabandhu Hall, Sher-e-Bangla Hall, Sheikh Hasina Hall and Bir Muktijoddha Children's Organisation also placed wreaths there.

Vice-Chancellor of Barishal University Prof Dr Md Sadequl Arefin along with teachers and officials of the university laid a wreath at Bangabandhu Memorial on the campus.

A virtual discussion was also organised. UGC Professor and PM's Personal Physician Prof Dr ABM Abdullah presented keynote address at the discussion. In his speech, he said that Bangabandhu has rebuilt a newly war-torn country in just three and a half years. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has made Bangladesh a role model of development in the world. 

In his speech, Prof Dr Md Sadequl Arefin said that those who brought red and green flags should not be insulted and should not be forgotten. He called upon the younger generation to come forward to make them better. “If our young generation goes ahead with role model of PM Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh will become the golden Bengal of Bangabandhu's dream,” he said. 

President of the BU Teachers Association Md Arif Hossain, Chairman of the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology Rehana Parveen, Rafiqul Islam Serniabat, General Secretary of BU Officers Association also spoke at the event. 

At the end of the discussion, names of the winners of essay competition held on the occasion of Martyred Intellectuals Day were announced by Md. Khorshed Alam.

Magura: District Jubo League organised a bicycle rally with 100 national flags on the occasion of the Victory Day and the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, reports out Magura Correspondent

Juba League organised a bicycle procession with national flags in Magura district town. 

Saifuzzaman Shikhar, MP from Magura-1 constituency, led the rally. The rally started from Nomani Maidan of the district town at about 11 am and  rounded Vaina, Dhaka Road, Chouragi mour, Natun Bazar Road, Stadium Para and other main roads of magura district town. Later it came to an end at Nomani Maidan. District Jubo League convener Fazlur Rahman, joint convener Ali Ahmed Ahad, Sakibul Hasan Tuhin and other leaders and activists took part in the rally. 

In this regard, the convener of the district Jubo League Fazlur Rahman said that the bicycle rally with 100 national flag has been organized to celebrate the victory day of Mujib's centenary.
