The main index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSEX) hits 16 months high as fresh investment gears up the capital market.
Stocks expanded gaining streak for the straight fourth week that pushed up DSE market-capitalisation.
In the last four weeks, the amount of DSE’s investment has increased to over Tk 35,260 crore to stand at 425794.6 crore on Thursday.
The prime index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSEX) went up more than 350 points to close at 5,218 point.
Market analysts said optimistic investors have shown their buying spree on sector-wise securities to push the market up in last four weeks on regulatory moves and gradual improvement of economic activities.
They said most of the share prices increased participating to push the stock market in green zone in outgoing week.
They mentioned the optimistic investors continued their buying spree amid growing confidence in the market riding on regulatory moves to restore discipline in the market as well as some good IPOs approval recently.
They added that trading debut of biggest-ever issue Robi, buoyed by general investors' buying spree and increased participation from institutional investors, help gear up the last trading day of the last week.
The stock market regulator's moves to restructure boards of some 20 listed companies which sponsor-directors fail to hold minimum 30 percent shares jointly, also attracted the investors, they said.
The prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) increased significantly by 119.82 points or 2.41 percent to stand at 5,094.
However, the DSE 30 Index comprising blue chips went up by 78.12 points to close at 1,876 and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) increased by 23.58 points to finish at 1,203.
The total turnover on DSE increased to Tk 41.73 billion in the last week against Tk 38.97 billion in the week before.
The daily average turnover stood at Tk 11.24 billion in the last week, up nearly 23 percent higher than the previous week's average of Tk 9.15 billion.
Losers beat strongly over the gainers as out of 364 issues traded, 193 ended lower, 109 closed higher and 62 remained unchanged on the DSE floor.
On the other hand, the port city bourse, the Chattogram Stock Exchange (CSE) also saw a positive trend during the last week with its selective category index (CSCX) gaining 199 points to close at 9,036 points.
All-Share Price Index (CASPI) of the CSE was higher by 319 points on Thursday to close at 14,989 points.
