While chairing the meeting of Awami League (AL) Local Government Representative Nomination Board at her official residence Ganabhaban in capital Dhaka, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina asked the authorities concerned to investigate the cause of repeated fire incidents immediately.
The authorities concerned will also have to look into whether Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has any involvement with the fire incidents taking place one after another. After a recent devastating fire incident in the city’s Bangabazar on April 4, which left the area in ruins, the incidents of fire and explosion one after another continued taking places across the country.
A fire that broke out at Dhaka’s New Supermarket — next to New Market — early Saturday, has been brought under control. Meanwhile, the New Market will remain closed until further instructions, New Market Business Association made the announcement immediately after the fire incident.

Black smoke filled the air as the pre-dawn fire engulfed the New Super Market in the capital, forcing fire service to mobilise 30 of their units at the scene with military, paramilitary and police joining their hands to extinguish the blaze.
According to fire service officials, the incident was reported to them at about 5.40 am yesterday and they immediately sent the units to the scene, one after another, and there had been no reported deaths from the blaze.
TV footages showed army, navy, air force and paramilitary Border Guard Bangladesh personnel along with police joined hands to help the fire fighters while businessmen rushed to the market to save their belongings at the shops.
Earlier we witnessed the Bangabazar fire devastated the shop owners by the loss weeks ahead of the Eid since efforts of hundreds of firefighters and army personnel could do little to save their belongings as the inferno tore through the clothing market, turning it into a pile of ashes.
The BNP is trying to politicise the fire incidents without standing by the fire-affected people. Therefore, the incidents should be investigated and scrutinised immediately.
As per the prime minister’s directives, the authorities should carryout investigation whether the BNP was involved in the devastating fire incidents and explosions in the capital Dhaka and other parts of the country or not?
