French team visits Rohingya camps

A three-member delegation led by France's Special Envoy for Myanmar, Christian Lechervy, visited the Rohingya camps in Cox's Bazar on Sunday. The delegation observed various humanitarian aid activities in the camps and exchanged views with Rohingya refugees.

The other members of the delegation were Guillaume Audren de Kerdrel, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of France in Dhaka, and Political Attaché Emilie Palahouan.

The delegation visited the data centre at camp no. 9 on Sunday morning. There they exchanged views with the staffs of the centre and learned about their activities. They also spoke with the Rohingya people present there at that time and heard abouth their problems.

Later, the delegation visited the e-voucher outlet run by World Food Programme (WFP) and gathered feedback from the Rohingya refugees regarding the rationing system. They also visited a learning center run by UNICEF, where they engaged in discussions with teachers and students.

The delegation then visited a bakery shop run by the NGO Forum at camp no. 5 and a Rohingya Culture and Refugee Discussion Center run by International Organisation for Migration (IOM) at the extended part of camp no. 20.

There, they participated in a view-exchange meeting with Rohingya men and women. During the meeting, the refugees shared accounts of the persecution they faced in Myanmar.

The delegation concluded their activities after visiting the Innovation Valley, run by the IOM.
