As Bangladesh is becoming the emerging economy in the region, many French companies are showing deep interest to invest in multilateral sectors here, said Deputy Head of French Mission in Bangladesh Guillaume Audren de Kerdrel.
He was speaking as the special guest at the 24th annual general meeting of the France-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIFB) held at a city hotel .
He said showing deep resilience during the last two years, the economy of Bangladesh has posted one of the highest growths in the region.
He said both French and Bangladesh companies will engage in exploring commercial and economic relations in the days to come. “ From the economic point of view, Bangladesh has a huge and yet still partially potential but I am sure that more and more countries and investors will be willing to invest in Bangladesh. Moreover, Bangladesh is recovering very fast from the pandemic and has outstanding growth figures and this will allow the very soon return of full economic activity,’ the French CDA said.
“So that the momentum is very buoyant for France and Bangladesh both politically and economically. Now that the political phase is well underway, we still have to roll out the economic aspect into numerous projects. And this where the France-Bangladesh Chamber of commerce and Industry can and must play a leading role in developing the full potentials of our two countries, the French CDA mentioned.
Shafquat-Matin, Group Director of Dipon Group, and new president of the France-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIFB) tax discrepancy among local and international companies need to be removed to attract French investment in Bangladesh.
He expressed the hope that France will transfer advance technology to Bangladesh to increase productivity and competitiveness of local companies Terming French as an important trading partner, outgoing CCIFB president Syed Mahmudul Huq said that the total French investment until 2020 stood at US$2563.58 million.
Bangladesh has encouraged France to invest in Bangladesh and many important French brands have already become popular names in Bangladesh.
“With the passage of time, opportunities have also opened up for greater cooperation in the development of agriculture, industrial, IT, communication, power, energy, education and a myriad of other sectors between our two countries. The greater role that space technology and the introduction of 4IR can play in enhancing the scope of our cooperation is also well acknowledged and some very important initiatives have been taken in these areas,” Syed Mahmudul Huq said.
CCIFB by bringing together the French and Bangladeshi partners has been playing a major role in significantly supplementing from the private sector the inter-governmental process of development cooperation. French imports of Bangladeshi products posted a 26 per cent growth year-to-year and set a historical record by reaching over 3.00 billion euros.
However, French exports to Bangladesh decreased for the second consecutive year by 20 per cent and recorded below under 200 million euros.
