Freight train derails in Chuadanga

Communication resumes after 12 hours

Five tank cars of a freight train derailed at Uthli railway station in Jibannagar upazila of Chuadanga district, disrupting nationwide train communication with Khulna. The tank cars derailed in the loop line of Uthli station at 12.40 pm on Sunday. Later, a rescue train from Ishwardi arrived at 8:30 am on Monday and started the rescue operation.

 After the incident, four passenger trains got stuck at Darshana, Ansharbaria, Sabdalpur and Chuadanga stations near Uthli railway station.

Uthli Railway Station Master Mohammad Ali said the freight train with 30 tank cars carrying diesel from Khulna to Natore arrived at Uthli Railway Station at 12 midnight on Sunday. The train was taken to line 2 for crossing. Five tank cars derailed when the train crossed point 14/15 from line 2 to line 1. Due to this, train communication with Khulna was cut off. He added that after the incident, a rescue train from Ishwardi reached the spot at 7.30 am and started the rescue operation. After a long 12-hour rescue operation, train movement resumed at 12 noon on Monday.

Meanwhile, a five-member investigation committee has been formed into the derailment of the train.

An investigation team was formed headed by Anwar Hossain, Pakshi Divisional Transport Officer.

Other members of the investigation team are Pakshi Divisional Signaling Engineer Rajib Billah, Pakshi Divisional Mechanical Engineer (Locomotive) Ashish Kumar Mandal, Pakshi Divisional Mechanical Engineer (Carriage) Mamtazul Islam and Pakshi Divisional Engineer (1) Birbal Mandal.

Pakshi divisional transport officer Anwar Hossain said a five-member investigation committee has been set up into the incident. The train movement resumed at 12 noon after the rescue operation.
