The family of a freedom fighter in Bagerhat’s Mollahat Upazila are passing days in panic as miscreants are threatening to kill them after he sued them over an attempt on the life of his son.

The freedom fighter, Md Ayub Ali, of Kulia village filed the case with Mollahat police station on Jan 18 this year after three miscreants – Md Raju Mallik, Md Sumon Mollah and Md Russell Sheikh – of the same village attacked his son Fardin Parvez in the sequel to previous enmity over land on Jan 11. Fardin, an employee of a private firm based in Dhaka, survived the attempt but suffered a fractured bone on the left elbow. Following the case, police arrested the three accused. Of them, Raju Mallik is in custody as a court in Begarhat rejected his bail petition but the two others have been bailed.

The accused and their family are not threatening to kill not only Fardin but also his father Ayub Ali and other family members.

“We cannot stay in our village home in fear of attack by the accused and their families. We’re living in great panic,” Ayub Ali told the Bangladesh Post over the phone. Mollahat police station Officer-in-Charge Somen Das told the Bangladesh Post that an investigation into the case is going on and they will shortly file a charge sheet.

He said he has been informed of the threat by the accused and that a process is going on to register a general

diary over it.
