Freedom fighter dies of corona in Lakshmipur

As the country battles the coronavirus pandemic, Lakshmipur witnessed its first Covid-19 death, augmenting the rising concern among people in the entire district. 

The victim is Ruhul Amin, 65, a freedom fighter who hailed from Fatehpur village of Chandipur in Ramganj upazila of the district. He died on April 12 in Ramganj with corona symptoms, respiratory problems and tonsillitis. After collecting his sample, it was sent for testing to Chattogram, and tested positive, District Civil Surgeon Abdul Ghaffar confirmed the matter on Thursday.

The Civil Surgeon also said that four more people were tested on Thursday, and corona test results of three out of those four people came negative. Among them, a male from Charruhita of Sadar upazila was found positive. With this, the number of people killed in COVID-19 in Lakshmipur district reached 26.  At present, 27 people are undergoing treatment for corona. 

them, 6 patients have been identified in Sadar and 18 in Kamalnagar, with one dead. All 25 infected patients are being treated at the local Corona Treatment Center. The other two are undergoing treatment at the Dhaka-Kuwait Friendship Hospital. 

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Anjan Chandra Pal said that 100 beds for isolation have been prepared in the district. Of these, 40 beds have been prepared in Sadar upazila and 20 beds in Ramganj and Kamalnagar upazilas. 

45 other treatment beds have been kept ready. From them, 30 are in Sadar and 5 in the other three upazilas. However, the district residents feel that these beds are not adequate for the coming days, as numbers of cases are rising. 

On the other hand, two people have been admitted in isolation in the last 24 hours. Currently, there are four people admitted in the isolation at Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital Complex, 7 people have been admitted to Corona Treatment Center, 12 people have been admitted to Ramganj UHC and 30 more people have been admitted to Kamalnagar Coastal Corona Isolated Center.

However, the general public are still not aware of its horrors. As a result, people in different hatbazars, and kitchen markets of rural areas do not maintain social distancing. They are gathering at various places. However, law enforcement agencies have increased their presence to raise awareness and make people stay at home.
