In the wake of a surge in online shopping amid the coronavirus pandemic some people are out to cheat the online businesses as the fraudsters are disappearing after receiving their products without making any payment, police sources said.

Gulshan police has recently exposed such a gang who were involved in such fraudulence in city’s posh area Gulshan.
Recently an alleged fraudster ordered various products online. While placing his orders, he mentioned the Westin Hotel as the delivery address. After receiving the products from the delivery man at the Westin Hotel, the fraudster asked him to wait in the hotel lobby. At one stage, he disappeared from the hotel dodging the delivery man.

All these activities were captured in the CCTV of the Westin Hotel.
Later the delivery man filed a case with Gulshan Police Station. Upon receiving the complaint, police started looking into the matter and arrested two alleged fraudsters from the capital on Friday night.

Inspector Aminul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) of Gulshan Police Station, confirmed it to the Bangladesh Post on Saturday.

“The arrested persons have been identified as Washi Khan alias Nore Alam and Habibur Rahman,” he said while adding that they introduced themselves as the staffs of the Westin Hotel.

We will continue our drives to arrest other members of the gang, he vowed.
However, he advised the online businesses to hand over their products to the customers in a visible place and suggested the delivery men not to enter any flat or any lonely place to deliver the products.
