Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Krishna Pada Roy said that a total of 277 puja mandaps in the Chattogram metropolitan area have organised Sharadiya Durga Puja celebrations.
Puja Mandaps are surrounded by four levels of security. Along with plainclothes policemen, policemen from the Striking Reserve Force, RAB, SWAT, Bomb Disposal Unit will be on duty. There are also detective police members.
The CMP Commissioner visited JM Sen Hall Puja Mandap under Kotwali Thana of the city on Thursday. At this time, he wished the people of the city on the occasion of Sharadiya Durga Puja to be held from Saturday.
During the visit, the CMP Commissioner discussed the overall security arrangements of the Puja Mandaps with the journalists present.
He said, a harmony committee has been formed around each mandap regardless of caste and religion. The overall discipline of the mandap should be maintained through the provision of separate gates, installation of CCTV cameras, sufficient number of volunteers for the entry of male and female visitors.
He expressed hope that the people of Chattogram will continue to support the universal SharadiyaDurga Pujafestival from a non-sectarian spirit as every time the people of Chattogram have a non-sectarian attitude in every festival of every religion.
The meeting was attended by Additional Commissioner of Police (Administration and Finance) MA Masud; Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime and Operations) AS M Mahtab Uddin; Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Abdul Mannan Miah, leaders of Chattogram Metropolitan Committee of Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad and senior police officers.
