Four sued for rape, murder of Jashore housewife

A lawsuit was filed against four people on charges of abducting, raping and killing a house nine months after the incident took place in Jashore district town last January. 

Jahanara Begum Janu, mother of victim, Sonali Khatun, 22, hailing from the town’s Railgate Paschimpara area, registered the case with the Judicial Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, said Moniruzaman, Officer-In-Charge of Jashore Kotwali Police Station.

Awlad Hossain, 45, and his wife Anju Begum, 38, of Rajapur village in Rupsha upazila of Khulna and Harun Ur Rashid, 40, and his wife Rokeya Begum, 30, were made accused in the case.

Judge Saifuddin Hossain accepted the complaint and ordered the officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station to report within 15 days, the OC said.

According to the case details, Sonali, a mother of four, was abducted by the accused from Railgate area last January.

Two months later, the accused demanded a ransom of Tk 1 lakh taka for Sonali's release and the victim’s father paid it in phases without informing the law enforcement hopping that her daughter would be released.

The accused then took Sonali to Khulna where they tortured and raped the victim instead of releasing her.

As Sonali fell seriously ill and she was admitted to Khulna Medical college hospital where she died while undergoing treatment.

An unnatural death case was registered with Khulna Sonadanga Police Station on April 16 in this connection.
