Four new tea varieties found in Baralekha

Four new varieties of tea have been discovered recently in Moulvibazar. Shahbazpur Tea Garden in Moulvibazar’s Baralekha Upazila has produced these four new types of tea.

The new verities of tea are called Honey Green Tea, Macha Green Tea, Lemon Green Tea and London's famous Alegre Tea.

Of the four new flavours the name of Honey Green Tea has come up in the discussion, which is sold at the highest price at Srimangal Tea Auction Center. 

According to the Srimangal Tea Auction Center, the tea produced in the region this season including the newly discovered four arrived at the auction centre for sale on June 23. 

The Honey Flavor Green Tea was sold at a maximum price of Tk 3,100 per kg in this auction. Meanwhile, Lemon Gree Tea was sold at Tk 2,420 per kg, Macha Green Tea at Tk 1,500 per kg and Alegre Tea was sold at Tk 1,200 per kg. Besides, Black Tea was sold at this auction at a price of Tk 145 per kg. 

At the auction centre, 140,000 kg of tea was collected from 20 tea gardens through Srimangal Tea Brokers, Ruposhi Bangla Tea Brokers and Jalalabad Tea Brokers. Of them, about 1 lakh kg of tea was sold.

Helal Chowdhury, Director of Srimangal Brokers Limited, said the 4th tea auction of the 2021-22 financial year was held at Srimangal, the second tea auction centre of the country. Buyers at the auction were attracted by the four special teas produced in Shahbazpur Tea garden. 

Jahar Tarafdar, General Secretary of Tea Planters and Traders Association of Bangladesh, said four new varieties of tea have been raised in this year's auction through Srimangal Tea Bockers. The new flavoures were the main attraction of this auction. The prices of the new teas were also good. This time, due to high production in the gardens, more tea arrived at the auction, he added. 

Md. Rashedul Islam, Manager of Shahbazpur Tea Garden said that four new types of tea with special flavors have been produced for the amateur tea drinkers. One of them is Honey Green Tea. This new tea is made by mixing natural honey with a leaf and bud of BT2 tea. Honey and tea both flavors can be found in this tea. Moreover, there is no need to add sweeteners to this tea. 

Besides, the Lemon Green Tea has lemon flavor and the famous Macha Green Tea of Japan the Macha flavour which is like powder. It can be mixed with hot water and drunk. The other is the popular Alegre Tea of London which is made in combination with BT2 tea with the flavor of the fragrant flower Chamomile of England.  Foreigners coming from Japan and England will be happy to get these tea varieties in Bangladesh. These four new types of tea have been produced in an effort to give the people of the country the gift of innovation.

Alamgir Hossain, owner of Alamgir Tea House, a tea trader in Srimangal town, bought five and a half kilograms of the new four types of tea at the auction for marketing them.
