Four more cases, including three murder cases, have been filed against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, several former Awami League ministers, and police officials in a Dhaka court.
In the first case, Sheikh Hasina and 30 others were sued for the death of grocery shop owner Mizanur Rahman during the quota reform movement in the Banasree area of the city at around 3:00 pm on July 19. The victim's father, Kamal Hossain, filed the case in the court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Tofazzal Hossain. The accused include former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, former Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, and former DB Chief Harun Or Rashid. After hearing the complainant's statement, the court directed the Officer-in-Charge of Khilgaon Police Station to register it as a First Information Report (FIR).
In the second case, Sheikh Hasina and 26 others were accused of the death of 14-year-old Ashiqul Islam, also during the quota reform movement in the Banasree area at around 3:30 pm on July 19. The victim's mother, Arisha Afroz, filed the case against Hasina and others in the same court. The court subsequently directed the Officer-in-Charge of Khilgaon Police Station to register this case as a First Information Report (FIR).
In the third case, Sheikh Hasina and 21 others were sued for the death of City University student Md Sajjad Hossain Sajal near Ashulia Police Station during the mass uprising on August 5. The victim's brother, Mizanur Rahman, filed the case with the court of Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Mostafizur Rahman. The magistrate ordered the Officer-in-Charge of Ashulia Police Station to register it as a First Information Report (FIR). The accused in this case include former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, former Awami League lawmaker Saiful Islam, former Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, former DB Chief Harun Or Rashid, former DMP Commissioner Habibur Rahman, and former DMP Joint Commissioner Biplab Kumar Sarker.
According to the complaint, Sajal joined the protesting students at Baipail on August 5, where police opened fire, subsequently arresting and torturing him in custody before allegedly killing him and setting his body on fire to destroy the evidence.
In the fourth case, Sheikh Hasina and 50 others were accused of attempting to murder a Dhaka Bar Association lawyer during the student protest on July 18. Advocate Abdul Baset Shamim filed the case against Sheikh Hasina and others in the court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Tofazzal Hossain. The magistrate directed the Officer-in-Charge of Mugda Police Station to register this case as a First Information Report (FIR). The accused include former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, former Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, and former DB Chief Harun Or Rashid. In his complaint, the lawyer stated that he was injured by gunfire in the Manik Nagar area of Mugda during the quota reform movement at around 5:30 pm on July 18.
With these new cases bring the total number of cases against Sheikh Hasina to 75, including 63 for murder, seven for crimes against humanity and genocide, three for abduction, one for attempted murder, and one for an attack on a BNP procession.
