Four more 500-bed modern hospitals to be set up

The government is going to establish four more modern 500-bed hospitals in Jashore, Cox’s Bazar, Pabna and Noakhali medical college to provide better treatment for people. In this regard, the health division has taken massive plan to construct five-storey 500-bed four hospitals buildings with modern healthcare equipment.

The project is worth about Tk 2103.33 crore. Tk 1440 crore will come from Indian Line of Credit (LoC) and Tk 633.33 from government exchequer. The project aims to establish 500-bed hospital buildings, ensure health facilities in tertiary level, ensure modern health facilities and creates employment of doctors and professionals in these hospitals.

Department of Health will implement the project. Abdul Malek Medical College in Pabna, Jananeta Nurul Haque Modern Hospital in Noakhali, 500-bed hospital and Ancillary buildings in Jashore and Cox’s Bazar will be constructed under the project for giving better treatment to people. The main activities of the project are constructing five-storey building including student hostels (Male and Female), intern doctors’ dormitory, staffs quarter and collecting modern machineries.

The project will be implemented at Jashore, Cox’s Bazar, Pabna and Noakhali districts. The Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC) has recently approved the project. Officials of Health Ministry said the ruling government is determined to provide health related service to all people across the country.

The government is establishing modern technology based hospitals in the country phases by phase to ensure health care service to all. “Now we are procuring modern equipments for providing better medical treatment to the citizens. In phase by phase, we will equip at all the government hospitals, clinics and medical college hospitals,” an official of Directorate General of Health Services said.

However, the ministry has planned to modernize the existing hospitals and establish new ones, he added. Meanwhile, the government has allocated Tk 25,732 crore for the health sector in budget of the current fiscal. The health sector has witnessed remarkable progress in last fiscal year. The government has undertaken several projects to ensure health services including the modernization and expansion of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital, establishment of nephrology units and kidney dialysis centers in government medical college hospitals and all district headquarters hospitals, and establishment of cancer treatment units in all medical college hospitals at the divisional level, according to the budget speech. The government has taken steps to establish medical college hospitals at Habiganj, Nilphamari, Netrokona, Magura and Naogaon districts.
