Four Madan Tak (Lesser Adjutant Stork) birds, which were rescued from Thakurpur border area in Chuadanga district, have been released into Kalagachhia area of Sundarbans Satkhira range on Saturday afternoon.
Satkhira Nildumur 17 BGB Battalion Captain Lt. Col. Sanbir Hasan Majumder released the rare birds in the Sundarbans.
Lt. Col. Sanbir Hasan told reporters that on the night of July 31, the four rare species of Madan Tak birds were rescued from the Thakurpur border area of Chuadanga without their owners. Later, the birds were collected from Jessore regional office of BGB for release in Sundarbans.
Saad Al Jami, the officer-in-charge of Forest Department Kalagachhia Ecotourism, members of Forest Department and BGB Nildumur Battalion were present at that time.
Madan Tak birds, which are used to walking alone, can be seen in the Sundarbans.
They usually live near swamps or river mouths. Due to the decrease in its number, the International Organisation for Conservation of Nature has declared the Madan Tak bird as an endangered species.
