Four meritorious students from the Mathematics Discipline at Khulna University (KU) have received the ‘Shaheed Mir Mugdho Scholarship’ in a special memorial event held at the URP Lecture Theater on Friday.
The event, titled ‘Shaheed Mir Mugdho Scholarship Awarding and Memorial Meeting’, was organized by the Mathematics Alumni Association of KU. KU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Rezaul Karim attended the programme as chief guest and handed over the scholarships.
Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Harunur Rashid Khan was present as special guest, while Mathematics Discipline Head Prof Dr Md Azmal Huda presided over the session.
The recipients of the scholarship were Md Anisur Rahman Palash, Noor Alam, Md Abdul Alim, and Ahsan Habib.
In his speech, the VC said that Shaheed Mir Mugdho had become a symbol of inspiration beyond Khulna University. “His sacrifice during the July Uprising has made him eternally memorable. His connection to the university was deep and sincere,” he said.
Prof Karim highlighted several initiatives taken in his memory, including renaming the university's main gate, observing July 18 as 'Shaheed Mir Mugdho Day', setting up a memorial corner and water station, and planning a memorial plaque.
Other speakers included KU Treasurer Prof Dr Md Nurunnabi, Director of Student Affairs Prof Dr Md Nazmus Sadat, Marine Engineer and elder brother of Mir Mugdho, Mir Mahmudur Rahman Deepto, and Alumni Association President Munshi Shahid Anis Sumon.
Students Md Zakirul Islam and Kashem Ali shared memories of Mugdho, while General Secretary Abdullah Al Mamun gave the welcome speech. Md Anisur Rahman Palash and Nusrat Yasmin Kona conducted the programme.
